About this paper
Many thousands of people in Iceland came from somewhere else. They work, pay tax, raise children and care for this country. But much of the news that shapes their lives is in a language they are still learning.
A new rule about permits. A strike at the schools. A change to rent support. These stories matter most to the people who are least likely to read them. The Companion Edition is here to close that gap, in simple English, without taking anything away from the newsrooms who do the reporting.
We believe that people who understand how Iceland works can take part in it fully. When people know the right words and the right questions, they can speak with their bank, their town office or their employer with more confidence. And the people behind those doors learn that someone is knocking.
Every story says plainly what is new. A proposal is called a proposal. A law is called a law.
