Almost every municipality advertises its own jobs on its own website, and the capital area municipalities are among the largest employers in the country: schools, daycare, care homes, libraries, sport centres and maintenance.

Six job boards, not one
- What actually happens
- A vacancy in Kópavogur is usually posted only on kopavogur.is, and a vacancy in Hafnarfjörður only on hafnarfjordur.is. Many never appear on the national boards at all. Some roles require Icelandic, but many front-line care and service roles accept English or other languages at entry level.
- What to do
- Bookmark the jobs page of all the municipalities within commuting distance, not only the one you live in, and check them weekly. You may work in one municipality and live in another; that is normal and has no effect on your services.
- The common trap
- Relying only on Alfreð and similar boards. Municipal work is a separate channel and often a faster route into stable hours.
